Old English Spaniel.
This attractive little red-and-white breed was, sadly, a failed attempt to recreate The Aqualate Spaniel-type as seen in the paintings of Van Dyke, Metsu, Watteau and others. Welsh Springer, Cocker and Cavailer King Charles Spaniel were all carefully mixed and the result was a breed that levelled out at about 14" in height and 18-19 lbs in weight for dogs with bitches slightly smaller: in stature the dog was about half the size of a Welsh Springer.
The breed had some popularity in the 1940s but then disappeared.
